"Lost for words"
Screening of the documentary by Hannah Papacek-Harper as part of the FReDD Festival
Les Abattoirs are partnering for the first time with the FReDD International Environmental Film Festival on the occasion of the festival's Grand Prix.
Les Abattoirs and the FReDD share a common commitment to raising public awareness of major contemporary environmental issues by fostering dialogue between artistic creation, scientific culture, and civic debate. Echoing the concerns raised by the exhibition Assemblages. Taking care of things, an integral part of the Gestes. Arts and know-how in Occitanie program, the institution hosts a screening and debate of the film LOST FOR WORDS, in competition for the 2026 FReDD Grand Prix.
LOST FOR WORDS (90 min, English audio with French subtitles), directed by Hannah Papacek-Harper, invites audiences on a journey across the United Kingdom to discover its landscapes and local communities. The film's starting point is the removal, in 2007, of several nature-related words from the Oxford Junior Dictionary. Inspired by the bestselling book The Lost Words by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris, the film lets itself be guided by these lost words (acorn, otter, bluebell, dandelion...) through the seasons, drawing us into a meditation on a nature that fades away alongside its forgotten names.

The FReDD International Environmental Film Festival is an event dedicated to cinema, scientific culture, and major contemporary ecological issues. Each year, in Toulouse and the Occitanie region, it presents a selection of French and international films, accompanied by talks, debates, lectures, and awareness-raising actions. The FReDD creates spaces for dialogue among filmmakers, researchers, professionals, associations, and the public to question how we inhabit the world and to imagine more sustainable futures. In 2026, the 16th edition of the Festival takes place from November 12 to 22.
