Les Abattoirs, Museum - Frac Occitanie Toulouse: an international institution with a regional vocation

As both a Musée de France and a Regional Contemporary Art Collection with national and international reach, Les Abattoirs develops an exhibition programme at its Toulouse site and off-site in partnership with regional stakeholders.

The principle of collection mobility lies at the heart of the institution’s activities, which contribute to the implementation of a policy for the cultural development of the region.

Its outreach team puts its expertise at the service of partners across the Occitanie region to support them in their cultural policies and to co-develop exhibition projects, as well as cultural and educational initiatives based on a desire to bring people together and share experiences around the artworks.

Promoting the circulation and awareness of public collections, enhancing the appeal of local areas, and innovating in the dissemination of contemporary artistic practices are what set Les Abattoirs’ scope of action apart. These various initiatives also contribute to supporting the contemporary art scene, particularly at a regional level.

A collection of modern and contemporary art: a participant in and witness to its era

The collection is the primary vehicle for disseminating artistic creation.

Les Abattoirs’ collection comprises over 4,500 works spanning the second half of the 20th century and the early 21st century, of which approximately 1,400 form part of the FRAC collection. The collection encompasses a wide range of media and bears witness to the history of contemporary art. Each year, Les Abattoirs continue to expand their collection, acquiring works by both emerging and established artists in order to reflect contemporary art and the changing world around us.
