The Cinémathèque at the Abattoirs
‘Les Jeudis des Abattoirs’ is a cultural programme that takes place several Thursdays a month* during the night, offering lectures, meetings, screenings and performances that are free and open to all. These events provide an opportunity to extend the exhibitions and share in a variety of creative forms.

As part of its ‘hors les murs’ season, the Cinémathèque de Toulouse will be showing a film once a month to echo the current exhibition at Les Abattoirs, Musée - Frac Occitanie Toulouse. In March and April 2025, Basquiat, a teenager in New York by Sara Driver and En corps by Cédric Klapisch (in his presence) will be the two films that resonate with ‘Le Musée imaginaire d'Oli’.

From 1978 to 1981, the youth of Jean-Michel Basquiat in the streets of a New York that has disappeared forever. At the heart of the punk scene of the time, the rise of an artist. The singularity of an era and the extraordinary creative talent of a genius. Yet Basquiat, a teenager in New York goes far beyond a simple biographical documentary. Through the figure of the young painter, the film not only paints a portrait of a city in full effervescence, but also depicts an electric period in which there was a complete break with institutional art.

During the meeting preceding the screening of Basquiat, a teenager in New York, Views will briefly retrace the life of Jean-Michel Basquiat and his impact on art and culture through a few memorable anecdotes.
