Le Nouveau Printemps

A festival of contemporary creation

The Nouveau Printemps is a festival of contemporary creation conceived with an associate artist for a district of Toulouse: an equation with two parameters for an infinity of possibilities. Edition designed by matali crasset

For the first edition, inviting matali crasset to take a unique look at the Saint-Cyprien district on the left bank of the Garonne was an obvious choice. A multi-faceted creator, she develops an approach at the crossroads of the artistic and the anthropological and has been questioning the notion of inhabiting and territory for thirty years. What does it mean to be a territory, especially in an urban environment where, by 2050, two thirds of humanity will be living?

In close collaboration with some thirty artists of different generations and disciplines, including several of matali crasset's fellow travellers, but also with thinkers and numerous actors from civil society (high school students, students, apprentices, craftsmen, associations, etc.), this year's festival explores a question that has become central in our largely urban era: the links between culture and living culture. Different approaches emerge along the way: stories reappear of pioneers whose life's work bears witness to a profound relationship with the living, and others appear, attempting to emancipate themselves from productivist and patriarchal conceptions.

With its exhibitions, meetings, installations in the public space and concerts, this edition is as much an invitation to reflect on the construction of a society in harmony with the living world as it is an incitement to action.
