Architectural heritage

Les Abattoirs

On the theme of "Architectural Heritage", come and discover the history of the building, its transformation into a museum of modern and contemporary art, and the creation of a basement room specifically designed to display Pablo Picasso's stage curtain.

In May 1936, Pablo Picasso was asked to create a large curtain for the event celebrating the first ‘14 July’ since the Popular Front came to power. The curtain was used as a backdrop for an act in Romain Rolland's play Le 14 Juillet. A gift to the city from the artist, Les Abattoirs is delighted to present one of the most majestic works in its collection.
