Damien Rouxel. Mes histoires paysannes
As part of the "Battre la campagne" cycle
In response to the call of the cattle, and following a short residency at Les Abattoirs, performance artist and son of farmers. Damien Rouxel is offering a performance tour of the exhibition Artists & Farmers.
The artist's body transforms itself and takes on the role of spokesperson. With humour, off-beatness, but also seriousness, Damien presents his stories of the countryside, mixing personal memories, current events, political speeches, sociological research and personal accounts...
Born in 1993, Damien Rouxel grew up on the family farm, in contact with a peasant world whose codes he learnt to make his own. He draws inspiration from it for performances and visual works exploring identity, gender and sexuality. His photographs reinterpret some of the masterpieces of art history, including Les Glaneuses by Jean-François Millet and Tres de Mayo by Francisco de Goya. Some of these works are currently on show in the exhibition Artists & Farmers.
