Margaux Fontaine

Gathering life, picking rebellion, dyeing mystery

Life is at the heart of Margaux Fontaine's approach, both as a subject of research and as a medium for creation. The artist's gestures echo those of an herbalist: observing a shoot, picking petals, selecting leaves and buds... She uses old sheets, which she dyes and transforms through her mastery of embroidery, painting and other skills such as tataki zomé.

In her work, plant motifs intersect with references from myths, fairy tales and popular culture. Characters and symbols interact to convey messages of resistance and struggle, particularly those of women, through legendary figures such as witches and fairies.

The monumental work presented in the exhibition is inspired by an ancient tradition of creating spaces for women to talk in tents. It becomes a timeless shelter for listening to or telling stories of nature and mystery.
