Corentin Canesson
L'Amour fou

In 2023, Corentin Canesson will be taking up summer residence at the Maisons Daura in Saint-Cirq-Lapopie.

A hyper-productive painter, his images are nourished by his uninterrupted conversation with the history of painting that preceded them, references that he summons with admiration but without excessive respect in compositions of vibrant energy, saturated with lively, expressive brushstrokes. On canvas, he alternates between figuration and abstraction, lettering, landscape and portrait, in skilful combinations of colour. Also a musician, he performs with the group TNHCH, made up of artist friends.

Corentin Canesson places collaboration and exchange at the heart of his creative process, and that's how he came up with his project for the Maisons Daura, whose title, borrowed from André Breton, an illustrious inhabitant of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, expresses the artist's love for works of art and the people who create them. Embracing the protean nature of the site, he simultaneously set up his exhibition space, his painting studio, his music recording studio and his living environment there for the duration of a summer. The exhibition he has designed, conceived as a welcoming lounge in the heart of the summer heat, combines a selection of works from the Abattoirs collection, a series of his own paintings and works by invited artist friends, offering a subjective journey through the painting of recent decades. Throughout the summer, Corentin Canesson will be producing new works and new musical experiments with visiting artists and musicians, which could give rise to a number of impromptu concerts in Cajarc and Saint-Cirq-Lapopie.

Edi Dubien
Metamorphoses

Edi Dubien cultivates an intimate relationship with the living world. A self-taught artist, he draws, paints, sculpts and moulds figures of changing status, metaphors linked to identity, the body and the violence of a normalising world. In his work, humans, animals and plants develop relationships of exchange, symbiosis and metamorphosis. The humanity depicted in these images blends in with nature, rather than dominating it. Just like Edi Dubien, who at a younger age found a salutary comfort in the heart of nature and its inhabitants, in the face of the harshness of life, an inadequate body and an identity to be rebuilt. On paper, canvas, resin or ceramics, the child, the bear, the fox, the deer, the bird, the rabbit and the tree look at each other, support each other, merge: together, they present themselves in all their fragility in the face of a rationalised, materialistic world.

The exhibition features a wide range of Edi Dubien's recent drawings, paintings and sculptures, as well as new works created especially for the Maison des arts. The presentation of his photographic diary and a recent radio interview also provide a close-up view of his working process and sources of inspiration. Conceived as an artist's portrait, the exhibition reflects Edi Dubien's close relationship with the living world, embodied in every one of his works, which combine concern and wonder.

The Maison des arts is supported by the State / Drac Occitanie, the Région Occitanie / Pyrénées-Méditerranée and the Département du Lot.
