Creating together
Artists' collectives in the Occitanie region
With the collectives La Peyrigne, Les Ateliers DLKC and Collectif IPN
Moderated by William Gourdin, in charge of exhibitions and regional initiatives, and Lauriane Gricourt, Director of Les Abattoirs.
To round off the "Battre la campagne" series of Thursdays at Les Abattoirs, exploring the link between art and agriculture, Les Abattoirs invites you to meet three artists' collectives based in Toulouse and the Occitanie region to discuss their creative methods and their links with the land.
The pooling of production and distribution methods is rooted in the committed, anti-establishment art movements of the 1960s. Creating together allows us to question the notion of authorship and the role of art in society. Today, in a context where the question of the commons, whose history is rooted in that of the countryside, is resurfacing strongly, collectives of artists are setting up community initiatives, particularly in rural areas, sometimes linking artistic and farming activities.
All of them will be sharing their thoughts and their experience of the collective as artists, inviting us to rethink the links between art and the land, and to develop new modes of collaboration and creation. These discussions are rooted in the residencies and exhibitions produced as part of the 'Artists and Farmers' programme being rolled out across the region, which promotes a sensitive mapping of artistic initiatives linked to contemporary rurality, and will enable the artists to look back on these experiences.
This event will be followed by a musical performance by Laura Freeth and Kevin Chrismann, created around the 'Creux, Samples et Soleils' project.
With the collectives and their members:
La Peyrigne (Berrac, Gers): Léon Biasiolo, Matéo Guilbault and Louise Pereira Guerra
Les Ateliers DLKC (Saverdun, Ariège): Debby Barthoux
