Prize Amis des Abattoirs

This prize accompanies and promotes artists in the field of contemporary art. This year, it rewards four young artists from Occitania by participating in the exhibition organized annually at the Toulouse site: Lana Duval, Bonella Holloway, Matthieu Sanchez and Anna Solal. It is a real highlight reserved for the young artists of the region.

This year, the jury, composed of Annabelle Ténèze, Director of Les Abattoirs, Emmanuelle Hamon, in charge of regional distribution at Les Abattoirs, Marie Angelé, Art Advisor at the French Ministry of Culture, Julie Crenn, Art Critic, Nicolas Daubanes, former prizewinner, and Philippe Joachim, President of Les Amis des Abattoirs, met on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 and selected the following four artists:

- Lana Duval, born in 1991 in Biarritz, lives and works in Toulouse, graduated from the Ecole Supérieure d'Art des Pyrénées

- Bonella Holloway, born in 1991 in London, lives and works in Toulouse, Graduate of the IsdaT, higher institute of arts of Toulouse

- Matthieu Sanchez, born in 1989 in Grasse, lives and works in Toulouse, Graduate of IsdaT, Institut supérieur des arts de Toulouse

- Anna Solal, born in 1988 in Dreux, lives and works in Paris, Graduate of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels de La Cambre

In the fall, discover the diversity of their work: installations, videos, paintings, sculptures, collages, or long term performances. These projects have been chosen for their strong proposals that respond to the artistic and cultural issues of today.

From what is left of painting or music in the digital age, from the falsely traditional return to crafts and embroidery to the absence of the work, this edition of Mezzanine Sud opens once again a moment of discovery on how artists of the new generation integrate art differently in today's world.

Mezzanine Sud - Prix des Amis des Abattoirs offers a great visibility to works by young artists in Occitania. Today, this prize has gained regional and national recognition, and has served as a springboard for most of the winners: acquisitions in public collections, new exhibition projects, etc. We have no doubt that this year's winners will benefit from this wonderful exhibition.
