This year the theme of the Horizons d'eaux programme is "the spirits of water", curated by Heba El-Cheikh, as part of the Africa 2020 Season. The first event is a performance at the Abattoirs by South African artist Donna Kukama, which she has designed specifically for the festival.

It is in a spirit of sharing, experimentation, encounters and celebrations around contemporary art and music that the artistic programme Horizons d'eaux has been taking place every July for the past 5 years. A journey of contemporary and live art on the Canal du Midi, produced by les Abattoirs, Musée - Frac Occitanie Toulouse and the Frac Occitanie Montpellier, in partnership with the Convivencia Festival and les Voies navigables de France.

Donna Kukama (born 1981 in South Africa) is an interdisciplinary artist whose work is inspired by performance-based research processes. Through performance, video, sound and text, her work questions the way stories are told and the way value systems are constructed. She proposes new "ways of doing" in her performances, here in a new creation inspired by her discovery of the "waters" of the Region. Her performances have been shown internationally.
